Leighton

Introducing Leighton Fairlie… Hailing from Mount Maunganui and now Auckland based, Leighton Fairlie launched his musical project in December 2017. A loop artist mixing elements of dub, roots, hip hop, drum and bass, acoustic melodies and heavy bass riddims - his unique sound is captivating.

It’s fair to say Leighton has achieved a lot in a short amount of time! Since December 2017 he has already opened for bands such as Knights of the DUB Table, ManaLion, Summer Thieves, Katchafire, The Black Seeds and Strangely Arousing. These opportunities have fed his drive to create and perform.

“I remember watching The Black Seeds in The Mount back in 2008 and thinking to myself "I'm going to share the stage with them one day". 10 years later it finally happened. Pretty stoked!”

2018 is set to be a biggie for Leighton! He is opening for Otium at our Deadman’s Disco on Friday the 13th of April. He also recently announced he will be opening for kiwi legends Salmonella Dub in June.

He has been hard at work recording his EP which he plans to release in June. Inspired by a message of political awareness and overcoming the negativity in the world through love, self-love and positivity.

“I feel strongly about culture connection within my music. I want to be able to connect with all cultures when people hear my tunes. Trying to find mixture of a kiwi sound mixed with South American elements is what I'm hoping to achieve.”

Having recently added trumpet player Fabiano Fava to his act, making the project a two-piece, his sound continues to develop and gain depth. Fabiano is originally from Porto Alegre Brazil. He's played in various professional bands throughout South America also opening up for The Black Seeds while they toured Brazil back in 2016. The boys have played a handful of shows together from Whangarei to Waiheke Island, Raglan and The Mount but Otium’s Deadman’s Disco on the 13th April will be their first Auckland show together. The boys have been busy jamming and dreaming up a juicy set for you to get down to.
